Hemosave Device
Hemosave addresses the burden of Postpartum Hemorrhage, whichis the leading cause of maternal deaths globally accounting for70,000 deaths annually although this value increases to 60% inLMICs. In Uganda it is responsible for 127,000 deaths annually which accounts for 25% of all maternal deaths. PPH has such asignificant impact because blood loss during delivery is visually estimated by gynecologists rather than quantitatively measured, leading to inaccurate or delayed diagnosis.Hemosave device is a low cost device designed to prevent PPH by monitoring blood loss in real time during Cesarean section.
It is designed from locally available resources, offers a sustainable,low-cost solution at just $70 and user-centered crafted for LMICs.This early detection will allow doctors to give swift, appropriate treatment such as clotting drugs or transfusions to replenish lostblood, and hence save the mother’s life.
