Automated Low Syringe Pump for Administration of Pre-eclampsia Loading Dose

20-minute infusion of a 20 ml magnesium sulphate solution is the standard
way of administering the loading dose to Preeclampsia mothers in hospitals.
However in Uganda; Hospitals lack the appropriate device to carry out this
procedure because of the high cost of infusion and syringe pumps(~1,500,000).
Hospitals are also under staffed, this leads to their current practise where nurses
manually administer 2-3 ml of drug with syringe in 5 minutes intervals and this
results into Undesired levels of MgSO₄ in body, Unbearable burning sensations
and overall inaccurate treatment.
Below is the Designed Low cost syringe pump that solves the situation. It is
made up of a motor that drives a screw for the 20 minutes of administration at a
given rate.
It is affordable (177,900 UGX), Intuitive user interface, Flexible mounting
capabilities and utilizes a rechargeable battery which lasts at least 5 uses when
fully charged
