ABOUT THE

Centre of Design, Innovation and Translational Excellence (C.I.T.E)

Centre of Design, Innovation and Translational Excellence (CITE), initially focused on maternal and neonatal health with a long-term aspiration to build innovation and capacity in the low resource settings, this will act as a blueprint to stimulate innovations beyond maternal and child health and to expand technological and research expertise to become the leading center for academic excellence and innovations in biomedical engineering in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). This centre, started in May, 2019, has thus far won three funded projects from Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) and Medical Research Council (MRC). To date, we have focused on building an international collaborative network of engineers and clinical researchers between Uganda and the UK. The aim of this network will be to expand our collaborative network to other key disciplines including social science, implementation science, business development and healthcare policy researchers.

The Vision

A hub for capacity building in design, innovation and product translation in Sub-Saharan Africa

The Mission

To become the leading center for academic excellence in research, innovations and product translation in Biomedical engineering in Sub-Saharan Africa.

The Aim

Our aim is to develop an interdisciplinary Centre of Design, Innovation and Translational Excellence (CITE) which will nurture innovations that are cost effective, sustainable and as well translate them to market in resource limited settings.

Our Projects

Our Projects

Capacity building for a Centre of Design, Innovation and Translational Excellence (CITE) for clinical trials of healthcare technologies in SS Africa”.

The main objective is to strengthen local research capacity through training on clinical trial design for investigational medical devices and medical writing for the regulation of such devices.
Funder :

Medical Research Council (MRC)

Strengthening interdisciplinary Research in Translational Pathways for Improved Maternal and Child Health in Uganda.

The main focus is mainly on building capacities in technologies for maternal and child health and fostering collaborations between clinicians and engineers.
